Urban Sustainability Tour!
Innovations in Green Infrastructure

Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010

11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Limit 35 Seats!

Join a guided tour of new, imagined, and existing green infrastructure projects using  different approaches to making everyday urban needs greener and more sustainable in Philadelphia.  Green infrastructure attempts to provide a more natural approach to currently used systems: the pipes, concrete and other engineered products of an average streetscape.

  • View plans and construction of Penn’s new 24-acre public park and learn about the stormwater management system which will supply the site’s irrigation.
  • Tour the green roof at the Radian, a new mixed-use residential building.
  • Visit  Mill Creek Farm and Mill Creek Garden’s swale and retention basin created to manage stormwater, as featured in “A Guide to Great Gardens of the Philadelphia Region." Native plants  and meandering paths provide a relaxing oasis and a habitat for local wildlife.
  • Learn about porous surfaces in Clark Park where balls bounce on the same busy basketball court that rainwater seeps through.
